Naima Adedapo auditioned for American Idol to hopefully provide her children with a better life. Jacob Lusk auditioned after being bombarded with phone calls from friends encouraging him to head to the LA Forum. 
My personal favorite Chicago's Haley Reinhart started singing on stage with her parents' band when she was just 8 years old.
